Biography

Luba Magnus is a comedian, writer, director, animator, and just wants to be outside.

Originally from small-town Port Colborne Ontario, Luba began performing stand-up comedy in Toronto in 2006, and she has since become a staple in Canada’s alt-comedy scene.Her debut stand-up album “Baba Luba” has received critical acclaim: NPR’s Bullseye With Jesse Thorn included it in their 2022 Stand-Up Comedy Spectacular, amongst renowned acts such as Tig Notaro, Roy Wood Jr., and Jen Kirkman, describing it as “enthusiastic, warm, and weird” and “one of the rare stand-up comedy acts that features botany… heavily!” Paste Magazine listed it #10 in their Best Comedy Albums of 2022, describing it as “equal parts clever and nonsensical with her creative wordplay”. 

Luba has performed across Canada, was selected to perform in the 2019 SiriusXM “Top Comic Competition”, has made numerous appearances on CTV News Channel’s “The Debate”, and she now calls Halifax, Nova Scotia home, where she has co-Headlined the Halifax Yuk Yuk’s comedy club, produced a show in the Halifax Fringe, and co-produces a weekly show called “Better Times Comedy” which was voted Best Comedy Show in 2023. She is set to appear at the Montreal Fringe Festival in June 2024.

Also known for her comedic films and artwork, Luba’s creations have been seen on Funny or Die, CBC, Sesame Street, and won the 2021 Toronto Sketch Festival's “Outstanding Comedy Short” award. Her original content has amassed over 1 Million views on social media collectively.

With her eclectic approach to comedy and content creation, as well as her passion for helping people laugh and learn, Luba Magnus is sure to delight.
