Biography
Luba Magnus is a comedian, writer, director, animator, and just wants to be outside.
Originally from small-town Port Colborne Ontario, Luba began performing stand-up comedy in Toronto in 2006, and she has since become a staple in Canada’s alt-comedy scene.
Her stand-up albums “Baba Luba” and “Are You Okay?” have received international acclaim: NPR’s Bullseye With Jesse Thorn included them in their Stand-Up Comedy Spectacular lineups in 2022 AND 2024, amongst renowned acts such as Tig Notaro, Rory Scovel, and Jen Kirkman, describing her as “enthusiastic, warm, and weird” and “a master of pithy non sequitur jokes”. Paste Magazine listed Baba Luba #10 in their Best Comedy Albums of 2022, describing it as “equal parts clever and nonsensical with her creative wordplay”.
Luba has performed across Canada, recorded for CBC’s “Laugh Out Loud”, was selected to perform in the 2019 SiriusXM “Top Comic Competition”, and she now calls Halifax, Nova Scotia home, where she she appears at venues and theatres across the East Coast.
Luba’s original content on social media has amassed nearly 4 Million views collectively, which has spawned the launch of the TV show “Nature’s Cool” on Bell FibeTV, in which Luba stars and directs. Also known for her comedic films and artwork, Luba’s creations have been seen on Funny or Die, CBC, Sesame Street, and won the 2021 Toronto Sketch Festival's “Outstanding Comedy Short” award.
With her eclectic approach to comedy and content creation, as well as her passion for helping people laugh and learn, Luba Magnus is sure to delight.
